Antwone Fisher grows up animation in a foster home where he is beaten, mentally and sexually abused. After spending time in an orphans asylum he doesnt know what to do with his life. After opinion about it he decides to join the Navy. The movie picks up with Antwone as a young sailor who has a problem domineering his anger.

Sent to a psychiatrist (played by Denzel Washington) he latterly begins opening up, learning to confront the past that has fostered his long-standing rage. Washingtons psychiatrist becomes Antwones spiritualise father figure, the person who teaches him to drop his guarded resentment, and assures him that he has the effectiveness to face the buried traumas of his childhood.
